Q. What is vein disease?

A. Veins are the blood to the heart from the body. To over come the force of gravity, inside the veins are one way valves which open to allow blood flow to the heart, and close to prevent "reflux" of blood back to the body. When these valves fail to function, or if the vein is damaged so the valves do not completely close, blood can begin to pool in the vein and cause a variety of vein complications.

Q. What are the different types of vein disease?

A. Spider Veins are the small, thread-like colored veins that are most often seen on the surface the skin. While many people seek treatment for spider veins for cosmetic reasons, spider veins also can result in substantial discomfort requiring therapy.

Q. Will treating spider and varicose veins help the way my legs look and feel?

Varicose veins are the large, "rope-like" veins which are often .25cm or larger in diameter. Varicose veins generally grow in size over time and can result in substantial pain and complication if not treated.

A. Absolutely! Most patients notice a dramatic improvement after only a few treatments.

Q. How can varicose and spider veins be removed without surgery?

A. Sclerotherapy is the non-surgical answer. A specialized medical team uses a small gauge needle to inject saline solution directly into the non-working vein. This process backwashes the blood pooled in the vein. The walls of the vein then stick together causing it to collapse. The remains of the vein are then absorbed through the body naturally.

Q. What happens after the treatments?

A. You can resume you normal activities immediately after treatment.

Q. Will surgery be required to remove my varicose veins?

A. The majority of patients will only need injections! In some cases, however, a more advanced treatment method known as Endovenous Laser Ablation and or Ultrasound Guidance Sclerotherapy may be recommended. In even fewer cases, a combined treatment consisting of ambulatory phlebectomy and sclerotherapy will be required.

Q. Are the results of sclerotherapy permanent?

A. YES! When injected properly, varicose and spider veins cannot reappear. Unfortunately, if a hereditary tendency exists, new veins can and probably will become varicose periodically.

Q. Are patients pleased with the results?

A. YES! As varicose veins fade and disappear, the pain caused by poor circulation is subsequently relieved. Additionally, the patient's self-esteem soars as unsightly varicose and spider veins dramatically decrease. This transition can sometimes occur in as little as one visit. The difference is quickly discernible in the patient's improved attitude toward life.
